US sales of organic fresh produce up by 11%

US organics – too expensive?

2020 was the first year in which sales of organic food and non-food products in the US surpassed the US$60 billion mark. Sales growth was double the 2019 level, reaching 5%, according to the 2021 Organic Industry Survey published by the Organic Trade Association.

Fresh organic produce sales rose by nearly 11% in 2020 to $18.2 million. Frozen and canned fruits and vegetables also jumped, with frozen sales alone up by more than 28%. Including frozen, canned and dried products, total sales of organic fruit and vegetables in 2020 reached $20.4 billion. More than 15 % of the fruits and vegetables sold in the US are now organic.
