FRESH PRODUCE INDIA will be a digital event on Thursday 22 April 2021 where attendees can learn about fresh opportunities for imported fruits, and how online channels provide new and exciting consumer-direct channels to build your products and brands in India. 

FRESH PRODUCE INDIA was a big hit in April 2020. More than 650 decision makers from across the globe tuned in when India’s favourite fresh produce event became the first in the world to go online. It brought a brand-new group of people from all over the world to discover the big business opportunities in India.

New networking tools mean you can load your own profile to connect and interact with all attendees via live video and private chat messaging before, during, and after the event. All sessions are fully interactive and speakers are on-hand to answer questions during and after their sessions.

The 6th International Symposium on Horticulture in Europe (SHE) will take place virtually from 9-11 March 2021. The event will be held alongside the 5th International Humulus Symposium (IHS) and the 8th International Symposium on Human Health Effects of Fruits and Vegetables (FAV Health) and the Annual Convention of the German Society for Horticultural Science. 

The combined symposia theme ‘Advancing together: Enhancing quality of life through HortScience’ reflects the many exciting achievements in horticultural science for the benefit of societies of today and tomorrow that were realised through a strong academic – industry research partnership.

The 3-day event includes plenary presentations of world leading scientists, panel discussions with renowned companies, industry stakeholders and legislators, short oral and poster presentations on fundamental and applied research, exhibition of products and services. 

The symposia will provide a unique platform for moving onward together to advance progressive values and to build a brighter future for generations to come. Our common goals are to beautify the planet through horticulture and to secure safe, healthy and sustainably produced food for everyone.

The symposia are organised under the auspices of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the International Society for Horticultural Science.

The conference is organised by the staff of the Institute of Crop Physiology of Specialty Crops at the University of Hohenheim and INTERPLAN Congress, Meeting & Event Management AG, in close collaboration with the ISHS.

Asia Fruit Logistica is back to the face-to-face format of a physical trade show next September. Asia’s premier fresh produce trade show returns to AsiaWorld-Expo Centre in Hong Kong on 28-30 September 2021. It takes place together with Asiafruit Congress, which meets on 27 September 2021.

Asia Fruit Logistica’s commercial director, Will Wollbold, said: “We have very bold plans for 2021. Our ambition is to welcome our clients back into the halls next September and open our doors in Hong Kong at the right time for Asia’s fresh fruit and vegetable business to meet conveniently and productively.”

Surveys of Asia Fruit Logistica visitors and exhibitors underline a strong preference to meet in person at the first viable opportunity, so the return to the physical trade show at Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo next September is the best platform.

“Our face-to-face format lets customers meet and interact in person so they can maintain their relationships and make many new ones with trade partners in Asia. Ours is the best-quality trade show experience in the halls of AsiaWorld-Expo. Hong Kong is also a highly advantageous location because of its global connectivity,” said Wollbold.

Asia Fruit Logistica ON, the digital edition of the trade show, connected Asia’s fresh fruit and vegetable business with suppliers and buyers across the world when it took place on 17-20 November 2020. Feedback from exhibitors underlined the importance of face-to-face meetings.

Asia Fruit Logistica’s return to a physical format in 2021 also benefits from key features of this year’s digital edition. The trade show will continue to offer its easy-to- use business matching and meeting technology to enable clear scheduling of productive business meetings. It will also provide a virtual content platform to enable visitors and delegates who cannot attend in person to join sessions live or view them on-demand.

“Our network of international sales representatives continues to support clients and suppliers who come from across 40 countries worldwide, and we expect to attract attendees from over 70 different countries as we have done in previous years,” said Wollbold.

The European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS 2020) recently classified Portugal as a ‘strongly innovative’ country. Analysts place Portugal above the European average in the categories of innovation-friendly environment, innovation systems, and business innovation. These results are the outcome of Portuguese companies’ firm commitment to R&D, as well as a collaborative working framework in which the private sector has cooperated with the public sector for decades on development programmes.

The strong Portuguese agri-food sector is a prime example of this innovative spirit. Its proactive nature is reflected in consistent export growth and numerous initiatives aimed at maintaining the Portuguese food industry in a prominent position worldwide. “Technological evolution has been promoted through the dissemination of information and initiatives that raise awareness, foster empowerment, and facilitate the implementation of digitization solutions by national agri-food companies,” declared Amândio Santos, the president of PortugalFoods.

The Digital Agrifood Summit Portugal, to be held as an online event on 20-23 January 2021, is one of these pioneering projects. The event was created by the associations of Portugal Foods, Portugal Fresh, Inovcluster and Agrocluster do Ribatejo, which together make up the Portuguese Agrofood Cluster.

The forum will serve as a showcase and meeting point for dozens of Portuguese companies and hundreds of international buyers. Fruit and vegetables, fish and canned goods, meat and charcuterie, quality oils, wines and spirits, confectionary and other gourmet products, are just some of the Portuguese products that will be showcased at the event.

First edition of Agricultural Water Summit Scheduled for April 2021 in Chile

The first ever edition of the Agricultural Water Summit will take place on April 20, 2021, in the Hotel Sun Monticello Conference Center in San Francisco de Mostazal, close to the capital Santiago. Organised by Yentzen Group, the Agricultural Water Summit will be a meeting point not only for the agricultural industry and related entities in Chile but also for international experts, who will come together to share their experience on using innovative techniques and farm management styles to limit the impacts of drought on horticultural operations.

Fostering intersectoral cooperation through both public and private organizations in order to bring about new and meaningful responses to the water crisis is another imperative of the event.

The event is expected the receive hundreds of attendees from Chile and the rest of the world, as well as dozens of commercial exhibitors.

Exhibitors who have not yet booked a stand and are interested in participating in FRUIT LOGISTICA SPECIAL EDITION 2021 can now register. “We are delighted to be able to invite more exhibitors to participate in FRUIT LOGISTICA SPECIAL EDITION 2021, to be held in May in Berlin. The Washington Apple Commission has announced that this week, from November 28 to December 6, is the second annual celebration of Washington Apple Week. The global event spans nineteen countries and feature activities to connect consumers with the source of their food through education as well as build excitement for the arrival of the new season Washington apples. 

Featuring the exclusive worldwide campaign “From Our Trees to Your Table”, the week-long celebration focuses on educating consumers on the diversity of varieties available, the process of growing the world-class quality apples, and the health benefits of regularly eating Washington apples.

Layering eye-catching in-store displays, the Commission will focus on creating an interactive experience through digital media. Social media, online contests, influencer partnerships, educational videos, livestream cooking demos and more will bring the goodness of Washington apples directly to international consumers at home. Viewers can join in on the fun through the Washington Apples social media platforms and following the #WashingtonAppleWeek hashtag.

“This is an exciting opportunity to connect with customers and unify apple lovers across different oceans, borders and continents. Fruit Attraction held its first virtual edition during the month of October, bringing together the entire world fruit and vegetable community through a new and advanced technological platform: Fruit Attraction LIVEConnect.

During this first phase, Fruit Attraction LIVEConnect has become established as a community made up of almost 7,000 members, generating more than 15,000 professional contacts; 40,814 messages exchanged between professionals in the community; more than 500 meetings held within the platform, 186 video calls and 228 conferences and technical seminars.

The next in-person edition of Fruit Attraction, organised by IFEMA and FEPEX, will be held from October 5 to 7, 2021.
