Carrefour posts record turnover

French retailer Carrefour has posted its best results for 20 years. Operating in Europe, Asia and South America, the group performed particularly well in France, Spain and Brazil. Like-for-like (LFL) sales grew by 7.8% internationally; in France, all segments increased in hypermarkets (+1.0% LFL), supermarkets (+6.8% LFL) and convenience (+8.3% LFL). Spain also registered very good growth (+7.1% LFL), and Brazil posted record LFL growth of 18.2%. Reaching a total of 1,874 by the end of 2020, Carrefour is on track to achieve its objective of opening 2,700 convenience stores between 2018 and 2022. This progress has carried on into 2021, too, with LFL sales growing by 4.2%, hypermarket sales up by 3.3% LFL, and the continued expansion of growth formats.
