Spanish horticultural exports continue to fall

The Spanish export of fruit and vegetables in May fell by 4.4% compared to the same period of 2022, with a total of 1.03 million tons, a figure that maintains the drop in previous months, according to the data published by the federation of exporters Fepex.

The accumulated figure for the first five months of 2023 has registered a decrease of 9.6% compared to the same period of 2022, according to data published by the Department of Customs and Excise Duties and processed this Friday by Fepex.

The decrease in exports in the month of May was due to a drop in shipments of fruit, which registered an export of 594,854 tons, 8.3% less than in May 2022, while the sale abroad of vegetables increased by 1.6% , with a total of 438,340 tons.

The drop in exported volume of fruit and vegetables during May was smaller than that of the previous months. In April, the decrease was 7.6% and in March 8%.

In value terms, the value of fruit and vegetable exports increased by 3.3%, to €1.615 billion, of which €1.004 billion corresponded to fruit (-1.7%) less.
