Plummeting vegetable prices in India drive down inflation 

While the rest of the world is battling food inflation, India’s wholesale inflation reached a 22-month low in December, driven by a sharp drop in vegetable prices.

The dramatic fall in the prices of vegetables was due to seasonal factors and a high base in the same period last year. Economists expect inflation to ease further in the coming months, although things could worsen on the food frontIn fact, retail inflation fell for the seventh straight month, to 4.95% in December, compared to 5.85% in November, according to data from India’s ministry of commerce and industry.
