Morocco’s citrus export estimates revised downwards for 2017/18

Tue 16/01/2018 by Richard Wilkinson

Poor weather conditions have led to estimates of Morocco’s citrus exports for the 2017/18 season to be revised downward. The high summer temperatures negatively impacted the flowering and fruiting stages of clementines, tangerines and other citrus fruits. In addition, the lack of rainfall during the fruit stage has had an impact on the size and quality of the fruit. Mandarin/clementine exports are estimated at 420,000 tons compared to 515,000 tons in 2016/17, orange exports at 100,000 tons compared to 163,000 tons in 2016/17, and exports of lemons/limes at 9,000 tons, down from last year’s 13,000 tons.
