Morocco suffering 20% loss of tomato crop due to ToBRFV

Tue 28/11/2023 by Richard Wilkinson

The ToBRFV virus is a global problem for the tomato sector. In Morocco, losses of this year’s crop are estimated at between 15 and 20% of production due to the blight. The virus can cause a significant reduction in crop yield, as well as a deterioration in fruit quality. Producers are facing a drop in demand and difficulties in national and international markets due to restrictions on infected tomatoes.

Tomato producers in Morocco have implemented several management strategies to deal with this difficult situation, including crop diversification, adoption of resistant varieties, strengthening biosecurity measures, searching for alternative markets, as well as collaboration and knowledge sharing.
