Maersk's new X-dock perishable warehouse under construction in the Rotterdam terminal.

“The new Maersk warehouse will stand out among our European portfolio of distribution centres,” said Jens-Ole Krenzien, managing director of Maersk Area North Europe Continent (Benelux, Germany, Poland, Austria, Switzerland). The warehouse will have an area of 23,000 m2 with 120 docks. Approximately 175 new jobs will be created as a result of the project.

An outstanding project

Located in Maasvlakte II, in the heart of Europe’s largest port, the warehouse will have direct internal road connections and access to outbound shipments by truck. Maersk will have full control of all operations and be capable of accelerating a customer’s cargo movement if needed. A direct link to the STAR depot is ideal for temporary storage of full or empty containers. It will also offer a fully bonded customs environment plus a dedicated area for value-added services. “The new warehouse will allow super-fast and unmatched delivery of containers within hours upon arrival of the vessel,” said Krenzien.

Low carbon footprint

Maersk has set itself ambitious goals for decarbonising land, ocean and air logistics. The new warehouse in Rotterdam will feature a cold store next to the X-Dock. The heat produced by the cold store facility will be used to warm the X-Dock warehouse, which should save over 200,000 kWh in electricity annually.
