Frosts send Italian fruit and veg prices soaring

A wave of frosts across Italy has triggered a sharp rise in fruit and vegetable prices, with some vegetables surpassing €3 per kilo. In the cases of strawberries, although quality is said to be satisfactory, the lower volumes are putting upwards pressure on prices. The price of the Marimbella strawberry variety from Basilicata ranges between €5.50 and €6.00/kg while the Rossetta has a price range of between €6.50 and €7.00/kg.
