Viyefruit is a family business founded in 1970 to grow and market fresh fruit from the area. Over the years, it has gradually expanded its production area with farms in municipalities of Lleida, Tarragona and Huesca. The firm’s own produce includes a wide range of fresh fruits and the handling and packaging centres have the latest cutting-edge technology, with processing capacity for up to 45 tons of fruit per hour and cold storage for 15,000 tn. The company currently has 1000 hectares of its own produce, cultivating around 27 to 28 million kilos of fruit. Joel Agustí Puigvert, representing Viyefruit, said:

“We start out with cherries in mid-May, followed by apricots, peach, nectarine, Saturn peach, flat nectarine and all the stone fruit, which accounts for 50% of output. We follow this with pears, apples, kiwi and quince.”

The company aims to grow a little each year, with new plantations or varietal conversions. The main market is Europe, which takes in 75% of the fruit, but the firm is looking to open up new markets, with its sights set on Asia, the United Arab Emirates and Africa. The company holds Integrated Production certificates, Global GAP, IFS and BRC, in response to customer and market demands. According to Puigvert, the added value of Viyefruit has to do with

“the experience and professionalism of our workers, and our drive to stand out in quality and innovation.”
