US grocery inflation accelerates in March

Grocery prices in the US have been increasing at an accelerating pace since April 2021. In March 2022, grocery prices were up 11% from the previous year – in February 2022, they were up 10.3% from year earlier, while the figure was 9.1% in January 2022). In terms of retail channel, dollar stores (discounters) have seen nearly double the rate of inflation of other channels, with prices up 21.6% compared to a year earlier in February 2022. Next comes the online channel (+13.2%), followed by mass (+10.5%), food (+9.6%), and club (+7.5%).
