The La Mancha association, dedicated to the defence and promotion of the only garlic with the PGI seal in Spain, brings together the seven companies that can use this exclusive seal of quality. This year, the association is especially focused on promotion in the hospitality sector, where there is great demand. Known for its aromatic intensity, spicy taste and strong aroma, the purple garlic has become a gourmet product. It is also very healthy due to its organosulfur compounds and high concentration of allicin, which endow it with medicinal properties. Marketing is following consumer trends with the launch of new products such as peeled cloves, garlic paste and, especially, black garlic made with the purple garlic from Las Pedroñeras. Beyond Spain, the garlic is marketed in Europe, the US, Japan and Brazil.
