Last week, Carrefour and STEF inaugurated a logistics platform in Rungis to accelerate the growth of Carrefour’s home delivery offer in Île-de-France and to develop same-day delivery in the Paris region. The brand entrusts its partner STEF with all logistics operations (reception, storage and order preparation).

The opening of the Rungis platform will enable the Carrefour Group to strengthen its position as leader in the home delivery market in France. The “Carrefour delivered to you” service is already available in more than 20,000 towns in France, and covers 74% of the French population. With this new logistics facility capable of preparing up to 3,000 orders per day, Carrefour is stepping up home delivery in Ile-de-France to meet the growing demand from consumers in the Ile-de-France region. The platform already serves 2.2 million inhabitants spread over 91 municipalities in Ile-de-France.

The site, located less than 20 km from Paris, will also enable Carrefour to meet new customer expectations in terms of delivery times by offering delivery the same day the order is placed. The ambition of the Carrefour Group is to generalize the delivery of full groceries on the same day of the order in France. A real opportunity for employment in the Rungis basin, this warehouse currently has 100 employees, 80 of whom have been recruited on permanent contracts for logistics jobs. The STEF Group aims to recruit more than 100 people by the end of 2022.

“This warehouse, located south of Paris, will allow us to meet the very strong demand for our Carrefour delivery service delivered to your home. At the same time, we are going to generalise full shopping delivery on the day of the order, which is an increasingly important criterion for our customers and creates the difference,” said Elodie Perthuisot, Executive Director e-commerce, data and digital transformation of the Carrefour Group.

Bertrand Bompas, Deputy Managing Director of STEF France, said: “We are proud of the trust that Carrefour places in us to support its e-commerce development in Ile-de-France. The commissioning of this new site extends and strengthens the historic partnership built between our two groups on a sense of service and the development of services adapted to new consumption patterns. It also illustrates our expertise in e-commerce logistics, a complex environment comprising no less than four temperatures. For the success of this project, STEF recruited 80 employees on permanent contracts and developed an integration program in order to deliver the best quality of service to Carrefour customers.”

Technical characteristics of the platform:
  • A surface area of more than 15,000 m² with 44 shipping docks for home delivery.
  • Multi-temperature site (4 temperatures, from ambient to frozen, including chilled) with the capacity to offer 15,000 references, including 33% under own brand (to date).
  • A preparation capacity of nearly 185,000 items per day.
  • With this new platform, Carrefour’s ambition is to have an even richer offer of fresh products (particularly fruit and vegetables) and to quickly offer a premium complementary butcher’s, fishmonger’s and parapharmacy offering.
