This year, berry company Driscoll’s donated 349 children’s gifts, 2,350 kg of food and 3,390 euros to local communities in Spain, Portugal, the UK and the Netherlands.

In a press release, the company said the donations were collected during sport events, fundraisers and a family day.

A team also dedicated 82 hours to voluntary work for a senior home, women’s shelter and a number of food banks.

Driscoll’s said one of its most memorable initiatives of 2016 was a 400 km bike ride from the company’s office in East Malling, England, to Driscoll’s headquarters in Breda, the Netherlands.

The team members accomplished this challenge within 32 hours and raised €2,390 for the MacMillan Cancer Foundation in the UK.

“Unfortunately, almost every one of our team knows or has been close to someone with cancer,” said Driscoll’s employee Alessandra Lillo.

“MacMillan Cancer Foundation is doing excellent work for people who are suffering from this dreadful disease. The charity is helping out with the medical needs of people affected by cancer and also looks at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have,” she said.

Theo Houwen, senior vice president-managing director Driscoll’s of EMEA, said he was proud of 2016’s result. “As a company, we believe it is important to give something back to the community. By supporting local projects, we can contribute to the world around us,” he said.
