The EU has approved fifty-two new programmes to promote EU agrifood products worldwide, setting aside a budget of over €130 million. The promoted products range from dairy and olive oil to fruit, vegetables and meat, and the programmes are supported by grants from the EU’s common agricultural policy budget.

The programmes will focus on helping producers communicate information about the quality of their products in order to access new markets and strengthen existing market share. They will highlight the quality of European food, specific market sectors, and specific countries and/or regions. Of the 52 approved programmes, 32 target non-EU countries, while 10 are focused specifically on the EU’s quality schemes, which include geographical indications such as protected designated origins (PDOs) or protected geographical indications (PGIs), as well as organic certification.
