Gouda: the Egyptian grower and exporter
Gouda is an Egyptian grower and exporter of fresh fruit and vegetables that started out in 1987. “Citrus fruit represents the core of our exports (90%),” said Ahmed Semow, the company’s representative in Russia. “We export 50,000 tons of citrus fruit, including oranges, lemons and pomegranates. Exports are sent directly to supermarkets in the Middle East, Europe and Russia under our Gouda and Sun City brands.”
GIFruits promotes sunny fruits from Tunisia
The Fruit Interprofessional Grouping (GIFruits) is a governmental association consolidating Tunisian growers and exporters of fresh fruit and wine. The association began its work in the 70s helping members promote their products worldwide. “Our trade partners are France, Italy, Russia and the Gulf states,” said technical director Kilani Belhaj. “Citrus, apricots, peaches, nectarines and pomegranates are our most popular exported fruits, with annual exports totalling 60,000 tons.” In addition, Tunisia exports tropical and exotic fruits such as avocado, mango, persimmon and prickly pear. Thanks to the country’s hot climate and many sunny days, Tunisia’s fruit is very sweet and highly valued globally.
