Colombia among top-10 suppliers of organic agri-food to EU 

Colombia’s organic fresh and dried tropical fruit exports to the EU climbed 31% in 2019, according to European Commission data. These figures mean that Colombia is now the eighth largest supplier of organic agri-food products to the EU, up from 13th place in 2018. Colombia’s total organic agri-food exports were up 38% last year, reaching 87,341 tons. Shipments of tropical fresh and dried fruits rose from 19,000 tons to 24,900 tons.

 

Agriculture accounts for 9.5% of Colombia’s GDP. With 40 million hectares of cultivatable land, the country is becoming a leading global food supplier. In 2019, exports of agri-food products reached US$7.3 billion, the main products being coffee, fresh flowers, bananas, cocoa derivatives and tropical fruit.

The top 10 exporters of organic agri-food products to the EU are: China, Ukraine, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru, Turkey, India, Colombia, Kazakhstan, and Brazil.
