Algeciras Port has started the operation of the second megaships empowered by GNL

Since December 20 of 2020, Algeciras Port operates the Champs Elysees of CMA CGM, the second megaship (more than 23,000 teus) which is powered by Natural Gas (GNL). This novel giant, 400 m long, 62 m large, arrived to semi-automatic terminal in order to load the merchandise to be exported to the Far East.  Champs Elysees of CMA CGM is the “twin” of Jacques Saadé, which stopped at Algeciras last November during its inauguration trip.

The implementation of ships driven by Natural Gas is one of the involvements of naval sector devised to reduce carbon emission.  The reduction is 20% comparing to traditional fuel. Being the pioneer of the sector, French shipping line CMA CGM will equip up to 26 its ships, including nine megaships, with motors using GNL.
