The new marketing strategy of Asprofrut aims to raise the international profile of one of the leading PGIs of the Italian apple sector, the red apple of Cuneo, Piedmont.

The new marketing strategy of Asprofrut is to raise the international profile of one of the leading PGIs of the Italian fruit sector, the Red Cuneo Apple PGI. “In terms of apple production, we are focusing ever more intensely on the fruit’s organoleptic qualities and on achieving the highest quality levels of the varietal range because today’s market demands distinctive apples. For the Red Cuneo Apple PGI, the key to our strategy is the fruit’s colouring. This is what allows us to supply such highly demanding markets as the UAE,” said the president of Aspofrut, Domenico Sacchetto. This premium product is in great demand in many countries, but, paradoxically, it is struggling to take off on the Italian domestic market. This is not a problem that affects the company’s other varieties, which are enjoying great success both at home and abroad. Sacchetto said, “We are adding to our traditional foreign markets by entering new markets, both in and outside Italy. At the moment we are investing heavily in varieties of Gala apples, which are overtaking Red Delicious on the world market.”
