Russian retailers have been recently facing shortage of open field vegetables, white cabbage, beetroot and carrot, in particular, and prices surge. Thus, cabbage suppliers’ prices increased by 56% during March 2022, which caused some 40 % consumer price raise. Such a situation is rather typical for the end of the season, and the retailers are waiting impatiently for the first deliveries of vegetables from Turkey, Uzbekistan and Egypt. This year the state of the thing is complicated by 10-% decrease of cabbage crop in autumn 2021. However, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture is trying to stabilise the matter of course by annulling import taxes on these vegetables. Besides, it stimulates the growers to expand plantings areas. Still, the delivery of seed varieties and hybrids is questioned due to sanctions, believe experts of kemmersant.ru online edition.
