IG International join hands with JM Baxi group to build container handling and cold chain project in Mumbai

In a major development—IG International, the Largest Importer of Fresh Fruit in India has joined hands with India’s JM Baxi Group to efficiently handle and transport Containers from Nhava Sheva port to the customers across India. This association boosts IG’s productivity and capability in delivering fresh and high-quality Imported Fruits to the consumers.

The project comprises creating a World Class Cold Storage facility along with usage of J.M.Baxi’s existing Container Freight Station – MICT I, located in Nhava Sheva, 13 kms from JNPT port. With this project, IG will be able to handle a total volume of 15,000 TEU’s annually, at Nhava Sheva, compared to 7,000 TEU’s earlier. The Food Safety and Plant & Quarantine inspections will be held at the Container Freight Station itself, further reducing the turnaround time.

This project is likely to stimulate further growth and will provide an impetus to the entire fresh produce industry in India. IG has always been at the forefront of investing in Infrastructure and consistently maintains its leadership position in the industry.

Commenting on the move, Tarun Arora, Director, IG International, said, “We are committed to providing best quality produce to our Indian consumers. Imported Fresh Fruits will now be delivered directly to our customer’s location straight from the Container Freight station without unloading them in the cold storage. The intercity movement is set to become easier, saving time and energy. India is set to achieve exponential economic growth and we are preparing ourselves for tomorrow as we anticipate massive growth in demand for Imported Fruits in the coming decade. Infrastructure projects have their gestation period and it takes time to build such projects. We believe, building this new enhanced capacity will help our industry to grow faster. This model is a game changer for the fresh produce industry in India and IGIPL is very proud to collaborate with JMB. Both are family owned companies and share the same values.”

“Speaking in terms of business, IG believes in adding value for its customers. This new supply chain methodology will create value for our customers who will have better quality produce with less transit time and at better prices” he further added.

IG International imports 31 varieties of highest quality exotic fruits to India from 22 countries across the globe. The company has cold storages and wholesale outlets across India in cities including Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Pune, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kolkata, Cochin, Patna, and Nagpur, and a global presence with offices in Belgium, Czech Republic, China and USA.

One of the great successes of the IG has been building the foundations of a robust distribution network for Fresh Fruit in India so that fruit growers from anywhere in the world and consumers in India can benefit from one joined-up marketplace.
