Norway is always looking for water ecological solutions. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Bjørnar Skjæran were present after the first trip of this innovative promising transportation alternative. A collaboration project between KONSBERG and Wilhemsen, two companies that also made Massterly together. Their invention will reduce 1,000 tons of CO2 and will substitute 40,000 diesel trailer trips per year, according to Svein Tone Holsether, general director of Yara. The Yara Birkeland will be operating from 2022. It will transport mineral fertiliser between Porsgrunn and Brevik. It’s a great example of the ecological transition to new types of emission-free container ships. The trial period of this high-tech ship will be of two years and will eventually allow the access to an entirely autonomous electric form of transportation.
