With around 20 million boxes of apples pears and cherries, Domex Superfresh Growers is among the largest growers, packers and exporters of US apples, shipping its varieties around the world. Washington State’s recently harvested apple crop is down about -11% from last year, but there are still very good promotional opportunities for apples. An estimate of 117 million 40lb boxes are to be marketed from the state during the 2018/2019 season. Organics have become a major segment, now representing about 15% of the volumes packed from the state.

“the main drivers for organic apples are our domestic demand of Northern America” said Mike Preacher, director of marketing at Domex. More organic volumes are coming with new plantings and other relevant acreages in reconversion. Due to its excellent growing conditions for apples, the Washington state actually represents about 90% of the US production of organic apples. Autumn Glory® apple is the main proprietary variety of Superfresh Growers, enjoying a very good market value due to its unique flavour, a mixture of caramel and spice. It also proves to have a strong shelf life. “We are now busy expanding the variety internationally,” informed Preacher.

Superfresh Growers almost doubled its production of Autumn Glory for this season.
