Copefrut recognised for carbon neutrality

Tue 10/05/2022 by Copefrut - Translation Richard Wilkinson

For the second consecutive year, Copefrut, with more than 65 years in the market for the production and export of traditional and organic fresh fruit, obtained the most internationally recognised carbon neutrality certification: CarbonNeutral® from Natural Capital Partners, for the delivery of its organic apples to the US and European markets, demonstrating its leadership in environmental matters.

Once the firm’s impact was estimated, compensation was made through the purchase of carbon credits, corresponding to the following projects: the protection and conservation of the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil, a wind farm located in Chile and a global portfolio of various energy projects. vital renewables to help reduce greenhouse gases.

But this year, Copefrut not only offset the emissions from the delivery of its organic apples, but also wanted to go one step further, starting the calculation of emissions from the entire production process, from the fields to transportation, through the operation of its plants.

“The management of the carbon footprint throughout the entire supply chain is the next step for advanced companies that understand that the impact of their suppliers can represent between 60 and 80% of the company’s carbon footprint,” said Carboneutral, a pioneer in Latin America in the development of climate change strategies. For this, Copefrut has worked collaboratively with several producers who joined this initiative.
