The agro-industrial company CAMPOSOL ranked first in the “Environmental Care” category of the Business Creativity 2016 contest organized by Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), which has recognized the most striking innovations made by private companies and public institutions in Peru for the past twenty years.

Camposol´s winning project is entitled: Use of the plant known as “Common water hyacinth” for treating industrial wastewater in the district of Chao, province of Virú, La Libertad. This project consists in removing the contaminants present in wastewater at a low implementation and maintenance cost. Furthermore, it has positive impacts on the environment, such as significantly reducing the emission of bad odours and greenhouse gases and the proliferation of pests, preventing contamination, and reusing the treated water for irrigating green areas.

“This treatment system is 100% viable and sustainable and is presented as an alternative that can be replicated by a number of companies that do not yet have a proper method for purifying wastewater,” said Jesús Arasti Barrios, Camposol’s Operations Manager.

Camposol is the leading agro-industrial company in Peru, the largest exporter of Hass avocados, and will soon be the largest producer of blueberries in the world. It is involved in harvesting, processing and marketing high quality agricultural and marine products, such as avocados, blueberries, grapes, mangoes, mandarins, asparagus, shrimps, seashells and other products, which are exported to Europe, the United States of America and Asia.
