Nashik’s grape export season gets underway

India’s largest grape producer, Nashik, has begun exports of its early harvest products. As of 21st December, 106 containers (approximately 1,600 tons) had been exported to Russia, Dubai, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Exports to the EU markets will begin in January and continue till April 10. Nashik’s grapes appeal to European consumers due to their blend of medium brix content, berry size and colour. The European palate prefers round berries with medium sweetness, whereas Southeast Asian countries, including India, prefer the elongated sweet berry. Harvest is reported to be good and prospects for exports are favourable. Despite the slight chill, it was not enough to affect the crop.
